In our family, we all love music, me, the hubby, the kids. So we have speakers in the bathroom, linked to an amplifier in the bedroom wherein lies the source of sound. So we connect our music players, phones, cd's or even the computer to the amp so we can sway in the shower. We're a strange family, huh? Well, that's us! We're happy being strange. I personally go a few steps further. I turn out the lights, fill hand painted diyas (painted by my talented daughter) with fragrant kesar and sandal oil and light them, showering thus by lamplight. Of course I must be wary, I don't want a decadent shower to turn into a burn fest! I put out the diya before brandishing the big fluffy towel, I'm really really scared of fire! Yet I do hate turning on the light!
If not scented oil, I use an ordinary t-light,and fill my old copper bucket (with an ancient reddish black patina covering it) with piping hot steaming water. Then I empty about ten drops of aroma oil into it, like sandalwood, frankincense or ylang ylang, or something floral and uplifting like lavender or geranium, or soothing like eucalyptus, camphor or lemon grass. A splash of a few drops of peppermint oil on the walls, dispersing with the steam from the bucket makes the whole place heady and fragrant. When it cools down a bit, I splash around with the scented water.
A satisfying bath should be seemingly unending. The shampoo and shower gel should be properly fragrant too! Try the yummy banana shampoo from The Body Shop. L'oreal loves its fragrances too - so I love L'oreal. Try a chocolate or vanilla bath gel and maybe a ginger scrub, you'll smell of Christmas! And the fragrance lingers!
You finally step out of a steaming bathroom into an air conditioned bedroom - you switch the amps and the music will continue. Then begins the wonderful ritual of doing your hair! Spray it, detangle it, put in the Moroccan oil and blow dry! Or tong it! Then with a contented sigh you read a favourite book, or e-shop for the day! A perfect end to the day, right?
