Mani Padma magically highlights sentiments most women have experienced at some point in their lives. Love, jealousy, laughter, heartbreak, desperation, bitterness, regret and even imbalance have been brought to the fore in riveting tales of unusual women.
Stories like “Prince Charming”, make the reader stifle a chuckle and raise his eyebrows, while “Eight Days With Sushil”, “ Sabjiwala”, “Breakfast” and “Pammi’s Escort Agency” make the reader laugh, cry or do both at once. They make the Reader ponder and introspect and he or she may begin to understand how each story reflects moments in his or her own life; just like glancing at the mirror.
Personally, my favourite was the very first story, “Prince Charming”, as it told of vanity and pomposity; and the solipsistic nature of the protagonist. People are often too full of themselves, they seem to be living an Illusion. “Pammi’s Escort Service” shows ingenuity together with ridiculous realities that surround us.
This book is worthy of finding a place in a Reader’s collection of ‘All-time Favourites’. Mani Padma has created a work that is a joy to read; one that may be read at one go or whenever the Reader needs a few minutes of entertainment.
These delightful tales are timeless; and will have the Reader returning to it more than just a few times, never failing to leave a smile.
